Bernhard Muller

Bernhard Müller is the Senior Professor at Technische Universität Dresden (TUD). He served as the director of the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) in Dresden (Germany) and also was the head of the Managing Board of the International Dresden Leibniz Graduate School (DLGS), a doctoral programm which deals with the Sustainable Development Goals.

Bernhard Müller got his doctoral degree in Geography from the University of Mainz. He completed his habilitation in urban and regional planning and development at the University of Hanover. He received a honorary doctoral degree from the Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava.

Bernhard Müller was a Vice President of the Leibniz Association, one of the major non-university research organisations in Germany. He is a member of the German (National) Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig (SAW), and the German Academy for Spatial Research and Planning (ARL). He is also an international member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia.

Bernhard Müller's research interests and expertise are in sustainable urban and regional development, spatial planning as well as resilience and regional adaptation strategies to climate change. He has been working as an evaluator for several European research programs, and as a consultant to the German International Technical Cooperation (GTZ/GIZ). Between 2015 and 2016, he was a member of the Policy Unit on “Urban Spatial Strategies: Land Market and Segregation” for Habitat III.
